Welcome to Cois Sionna Desmond Credit Union Limited
Cois Sionna Credit Union was founded in Askeaton in 1967 and has grown significantly through a series of successful local mergers with Estuary Credit Union (2015), Desmond Credit Union (2020), Rathkeale Credit Union (2023), and most recently Unity Credit Union in 2026. Cois Sionna Desmond Credit Union is now the largest credit union in the Limerick and North Kerry region proudly serving over 57,000 members across an expanded community network.
Our credit union is a financial co-operative, owned by its members and overseen by a voluntary Board of Directors elected annually from the membership. Unlike the banks, credit unions operate on a not-for-profit basis, with any surplus earned returned to members through dividends or loan interest rebates, reinvested into improved services, or used to support local schools, sports clubs, and community organisations.
Cois Sionna Desmond Credit Union now manages over €90 million in loans and provides a wide range of financial services including savings, personal loans, mortgages, farming and business loans, current accounts and debit cards. Our credit union offers a genuine member-focused alternative to the large institutional banks.
Our services are available across 15 offices from Limerick City and Count to, North Kerry, with branches in Askeaton, Glin, Newcastle West, Rathkeale, Adare, Croom, Foynes, Kildimo, Pallaskenry, Shanagolden, and Tarbert, together with our additional offices in Limerick City & County at Athlunkard Street, Ballynanty, Roxboro, and Castleconnell following the merger with Unity Credit Union in 2026. Our Common Bond not only includes these areas but also into East Clare to serve our members.
Services are also available with full functionality online through and via our mobile app, giving members convenient access to their accounts anytime and anywhere.
To all our members, thank you for your continuing support. We welcome the opportunity to continue fulfilling your financial needs and supporting our communities long into the future.
